"Abduction of Persephone", patinated bronze, incised signature to columnar support. A late 19th/ early 20th century casting depicting a scene from Greek mythology as Hades, god of the underworld, abducts Persephone, the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, down to the underworld to be his wife, the sculpture depicting Persephone leaning backward with her hand over her face and her trailing hand holding a bouquet of wildflowers, Hades wearing a crown and clutching Persephone around her waist as he strides forward with a fallen basket between his feet surrounded by strewn wildflowers.
